I’m glad you’re here!

I am KJ Wright, and I am an author, a wife and a mom. The author part is new. I started writing in 2020 after over 20 years in engineering. I learned to read when I was four years old, and haven’t been far from books since then. I fell asleep with cardboard books on my pillow then, now it’s falling asleep when my kindle hits my face.

I had dreamed of being a writer but I thought that people are generally either good with numbers or words, so I couldn’t be a writer and an engineer.  I decided I’d never know until I tried, and jumped into The Write Practice’s 100 Day Book course with both feet.  I learned a lot during my first draft, but found that writing is where I feel the most true to myself. I like the combination of creativity and craftsmanship, where I get to make things up as I go but I have an end in mind.  Right now, I’m dabbling in short stories and blog posts while I finish my book.

My first book is set in Butte, Montana.  I love the grittiness and blue collar loyalty that run deep in this mining town. I adore mountains, so it helps that Butte is near the continental divide, high on the rocky mountains.

A mining headframe on the horizon east of town.
